VFW Memorial Day ceremony set for 11 a.m. Monday, May 26
For 2025, families who wish to honor loved ones at Olney Cemetery with grave decorations on Memorial Day may display items from Thursday, May 22nd, through Friday, May 30th.
The cemetery values its relationship with the families we serve and are committed to providing all families with a well-maintained environment for visitation and remembrance. Cemetery policy states families may place their remembrances starting the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend, May 22nd, and those decorations may remain on graves until the Friday after Memorial day. Prior to May 22nd, cemetery staff will be completing spring maintenance, and items placed before May 22 are at risk of removal or damage during that maintenance. Additionally, grass grows very quickly this time of year and ten days without mowing presents challenges in an area as large as Olney Cemetery.
Cemetery staff will collect decorations that remain after that May 30th and store anything of value for a week, after which it will be subject to disposal. To claim any decorations that may have been collected after May 30, visit the Cemetery Office at 865 Tutuilla Road.
As a reminder, glass containers pose a safety hazard and are not allowed by ordinance; metal containers may only be those approved by the cemetery.
The public is invited to join VFW Let’er Buck Post #922 in Olney Cemetery at 11 a.m., Monday, May 26th, for the Memorial Day Ceremony and wreath presentation.
