VFW Memorial Day ceremony set for 11 a.m. Monday, May 25
Families who wish to place grave decorations to honor loved ones at Olney Cemetery this Memorial Day may display items from Thursday, May 21st, through Friday, May 29th.
The cemetery values its relationship with the families we serve and are committed to providing all families with a well-maintained environment for visitation and remembrance. Cemetery policy states families may place their remembrances starting the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend and that those decorations may remain on graves until the Friday after Memorial Day. Prior to May 21st, cemetery staff will be completing spring maintenance, and items placed before that day are at risk of removal or damage during that maintenance. Additionally, grass grows very quickly this time of year and ten days without mowing presents challenges in an area as large as Olney Cemetery.
Cemetery staff will collect decorations that remain after June 1 and store anything of value for a week, after which it will be subject to disposal. To claim any decorations that may have been collected after June 1, visit the Cemetery Office at 865 Tutuilla Road.
As a reminder, glass containers pose a safety hazard and are not allowed by ordinance; metal containers may only be those approved by the cemetery.
The public is invited to join VFW Let’er Buck Post #922 in Olney Cemetery at 11 a.m., Monday, May 265th for the Memorial Day Ceremony and wreath presentation.
More information about Memorial Day schedules and grave decoration policies is available on the Parks and Recreation website, www.pendletonparksandrec.gov. For any questions, please contact the Parks Office at 541-276-8100.
