Grant-funded cameras now operational

New security cameras are up and running at Pendleton Parks and Recreation locations.

Grants from the Wildhorse Foundation and Pendleton Foundation Trust provided funding for new security cameras at the Pendleton Family Aquatic Center, Pendleton Recreation Center and the Parks and Cemetery Shop and office.

“The Recreation Center had never previously had a camera system, but with us moving the afterschool program there, it became a high priority,” Parks and Recreation Director Liam Hughes said. “The pool has had a camera system for some time, but it there were some areas the cameras could not view well, and some of the cameras had become outdated. The new cameras increase the area we can see, and increase the quality with which we can see it.”

Hughes said the cameras will give management increased ability to monitor the large facility and grounds at the Pendleton Family Aquatic Center from a central location. These cameras will also allow management to watch in-water rescues and replay them with lifeguards and other staff for training purposes.

While the cameras at the aquatic center and recreation center are proactive, the cameras at the Parks Shop were added to the project as a result of a recent break-in at the facility.
