Grant from Roundhouse Foundation supports Summer Adventure Camps
A $15,000 grant from the Roundhouse Foundation will ensure Pendleton Parks and Recreation offer the comprehensive Summer Adventure Camp series in 2025 despite rising costs and funding shortfalls.
Pendleton Parks and Recreation Director Liam Hughes said increases in costs, including insurance, staffing and supplies, had jeopardized the program this year, so he began applying for grant funding to make up the difference.
“This year, sudden cost increases for items outside of our control, such as insurance, have meant that our general fund tax subsidy will not stretch as far as previous years,” Hughes said. “We are really grateful to the Roundhouse Foundation for providing short-term support for our summer camp program as we work on longer-term strategies to address recreation program funding. This program is relied upon by a large number of working families in Pendleton to provide high quality, reliable child care at an affordable price.”
The program costs about $150 per child to run, but Pendleton Parks and Recreation charges families $90. The remaining costs are subsidized through Parks and Recreation and grants.
Pendleton Summer Adventure Camps typically serve 70-90 families per week, offering high-quality, fun summer childcare for youth in kindergarten through sixth grade. The weekly camps run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, during the summer.
Pendleton Summer Adventure Camp will run from June 16 to Aug. 15 this year. Registration is now open.
