Mural proposals must be turned in by Dec. 31, 2026
The City of Pendleton Arts Commission is seeking proposals for a small mural at Brownfield Park.
The project aims to enhance an underused public space and encourage visitors and locals to interact with the work, creating a striking photo opportunity that encourages visitors to share their experiences on social media. The selected mural will be located at the edge of Brownfield Park, near the intersection of Main Street and Byers Avenue.
Brownfield Park falls within Pendleton’s Downtown Historic District. Murals within this area need to be compatible with that historic character and will need to display components of the historic neighborhood. Proposals must adhere to historic district criteria listed in the Call for Proposals.
The selected proposal will speak to the culture, history, flora, fauna, geography or industry of the City of Pendleton and exhibit strong artistic merit. All artistic styles will be considered, with special consideration for designs that show a strong artistic voice and an unexpected approach to the project.
The selected artist will be compensated in addition to a materials budget. The Brownfield Park mural is the first in the Commission’s Minor Projects series, a new program designed to provide emerging and established artists, age 18 and older, who have not previously completed a public art project with an opportunity to build their artistic credentials.
