The City of Pendleton Public Library is seeking a patient, enthusiastic, and organized Part-Time Tutoring Assistant to support our early literacy and educational initiatives for children in grades K-3. This temporary, part-time role will operate from September 1, 2025 - June 30, 2027. The position includes providing guided tutoring sessions using a specific curriculum and supporting the Children’s Librarian with programs for preschoolers through third graders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tutor children in grades K-3 individually or in small groups, following a provided literacy program.
  • Track and report on student progress, attendance, and participation as needed.
  • Create a welcoming, encouraging, and supportive environment for all students.
  • Assist the Children’s Librarian in planning, setting up, and delivering children’s programs for preschoolers through 3rd grade.
  • Help prepare instructional materials and maintain a tidy, organized learning space.
  • Communicate effectively with children, parents/caregivers, and library staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children in a school, library, or similar setting preferred.
  • Comfortable following structured, curriculum-based activities.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Patient, positive, and able to manage groups of young children.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work scheduled hours regularly.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant coursework or training in education, child development, or a related field is a plus.

Pay is $18.00-$20.24 per hour DOE.
