The City of Pendleton is accepting applications for a Planning Technician position to work full-time in the Community Development Department. Performs a variety of professional, technical, and secretarial duties related to planning, urban renewal, economic development, historic landmarks, and community development. This position maintains departmental records and files; assists with maintaining building files; confers with public on standard building and planning department procedures; prepares routine reports; does related work as required. This position is often required to participate in frequent communications and meetings, either in person or through email, MS Teams, Zoom, Skype, or other virtual platforms; and have contact with the public. Requires general knowledge of local and State Land Use Planning principles, concepts, and laws. This person will implement and enforce provisions of City Ordinances and Oregon State laws which apply to land use. Basic knowledge of standard practices, techniques, materials and methods of the building and construction trades would be desired but is not required. Requires customer service experience and excellent communication skills. Must be able to understand and explain complex laws, codes and rules. Must have experience in modern office practices, including strong computer skills. Must have High School diploma or equivalent preferably supplemented with a two-year degree from at least a community college specializing in planning, rural or urban land use, surveying, development, drafting or civil engineering is preferred, but not required for the position; and, or 2 years’ experience in field or office work of a sub-professional building, planning and/or engineering nature, or satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training.
