Streets will be closed during seal work and curing
Multiple City of Pendleton streets will face temporary closures during maintenance work this month. Slurry seal work will begin on June 15 and should be completed by the end of the month.
Slurry seal is a maintenance process used to extend the life of streets rated in satisfactory or good condition in the City's Pavement Management Program Options Report, an inventory of all city-owned streets and public parking lots. Slurry seal extends the life of asphalt that is beginning to deteriorate without having to perform a costly overlay. Funding comes from the Street Maintenance Fund, including Street Utility fee revenue and funding from the State Surface Transportation Program, which is dedicated for surface asphalt preservation.
The 2026 slurry seal project will impact 34 paved areas this year. Signs will be placed on affected streets before the slurry seal work begins advising motorists that on-street parking will be prohibited. Vehicles found parked within the impacted areas will be towed.
Roads will need to be closed during and immediately after the slurry seal. Barricades will be set up during the slurry seal work and while the material sets after application. Each area is expected to be closed less than one day.
The list of roads and parking lots included in the 2026 slurry seal project is available on the 2026 Slurry Seal Projects Page at pendletonprojects.com.
