Author will speak in Secret Garden area

Pendleton, Ore. — Pendleton Public Library will welcome award-winning author Jenny Hubbard on Oct. 10 for a special presentation in the new Secret Garden programming space.

“We are very excited to host Ms. Hubbard, as her books address challenging but real topics faced by teenagers today,” Library Director Jennifer Johnson said. “The library has always been a place filled with literature that both entertains, and challenges readers to think deeply. We think Ms. Hubbard’s books do just that. Her visit is a rare opportunity for eastern Oregon students to meet an award winning author.”

From North Carolina, Hubbard’s YA books highlight tragic themes with a lyrical style. Her debut novel, “Paper Covers” was a William C. Morris Debut Award Finalist and named Best Book of the Year by School Library Journal.  “And We Stay” won Best Book of the Year from Kirkus Reviews and Best YA Novel of the Year from the Boston Globe

In her Pendleton visit, Hubbard will present in the Secret Garden at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10. She will do an author talk with readings from her books, and she will answer questions throughout the presentation.

The presentation is free to attend and does not require registration.

This presentation is sponsored by the Friends of the Library through a generous bequest left by Gayle E. Blek, which stipulated funds should be used for reading related programs and activities serving teens and children at the library.
