The award-winning documentary film “SPACE, HOPE and CHARITY” will expand the cities movies in the Park series by one week on August 14th at Community Park, followed by a conversation with the film’s subject, Dr. Charity Woodrum; her mentor Dr. Scott Fisher, director of the University of Oregon’s Pine Mountain Observatory; and Oregon filmmaker Sandy Cummings.
The film follows the remarkable journey of Charity Woodrum from growing up in poverty in rural Oregon, through tragedy, as she doggedly pursues her dream of becoming a NASA astrophysicist. Dr. Woodrum was a student at the University of Oregon when she lost her husband and 3-year-old son tragically. With help from childhood friends, mentors and perfect strangers, she was able to get her life back on track, finding purpose and meaning by exploring far-off galaxies.
Admission is free, but concessions will be available for purchase. Donations will be accepted for both PFOL and the Woody’s Stars Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation, an education fund created in memory of Charity’s son.
