On Friday, August 29, 2025, at approximately 5:40 pm, City/County Dispatch began receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a brush fire in a field near the Indian Hills area, located between SE Nye Avenue and Sunridge Middle School.
Pendleton Police units responded within minutes to secure the area and assist with traffic and public safety while the Pendleton Fire Department (PFD) initiated fire suppression efforts. Due to the size and location of the fire, PFD was supported by several neighboring fire agencies.
Pendleton Police were also assisted by Pendleton Public Works, Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon State Police to help secure the area and direct traffic. While fire suppression was still occurring, the Pendleton Police was investigating the cause of the incident. As a result of this investigation, a juvenile was taken into custody in connection with the fire and faces charges.
Due to legal restrictions, no further information regarding the juvenile will be released.
We thank the responding fire, police agencies and community members for their quick action and cooperation. The safety of our residents remains our top priority.
